For most people hypnosis works very well and is successful in bringing the changes desired. Hypnosis is effective for many purposes, bringing changes and improvements easily. You are still in control when experiencing self-hypnosis but you feel nicely relaxed and should very much enjoy the experience. In some ways it is similar to meditation. hypnosis makes it easier to do what you have decided is right for you. It changes the automatic behaviours we all have, our little 'programs' where we repeat the same behaviours.
How does it work?
You can change your habits, feelings and behaviour using logic, learning, willpower and practice, but it is very difficult and even if you have very good willpower you may find it virtually impossible. This is because the subconscious mind is very powerful and is responsible for a lot of behaviours, habits and feelings. It is difficult to successfully influence your own subconscious to this extent, and this is where hypnotherapy can be highly effective. Hypnosis works by influencing your subconscious mind in line with your conscious desire to make the change you want. Some problems result in anxiety, stress and intense worry - all these symptoms can be alleviated through the use of hypnotherapy.
Sometimes the problem may have existed for some time, years perhaps, and thinking constantly and negatively about it can perpetuate it and make it feel insurmountable. The negative feelings we get from the problem can make us feel hopeless, that we will never be able to change and will never resolve it.
Hypnosis can change all of these negative thinking patterns and change your subconscious auto-responses enabling positive change to be not only achieveable, but in most cases much easier than you would have dreamed. Positive suggestions make you feel you can overcome anything, deal with any problem, it can make you feel back in control, in control of yourself and in control of your life.
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is an altered state of mind, it is a state of deep relaxation where you go into a trance. A trance is a very natural state and not so mysterious - we all go into trance for example if you become absorbed in a good book you are to all intents and purposes cut off from the world you live in albeit temporarily. The same thing can also happen when watching television, thinking over the past or day dreaming, or driving home on a familiar route and realising you don't remember getting there.
Although hypnosis is natural and simple in a sense, it is also powerful therapeutic and highly effective at adjusting wrong or negative thinking deep in the subconscious part of the mind. Changing negative thoughts and behavious patterns into positive ones that can help you get more out of life.
Hypnotherapy is a way of guiding you towards your goals, it cannot make you do anything you do not wish to do, you have to be fully compliant during the process, you would not do anything which conflicts with your moral code or your beliefs. Hypnosis can only get behaviours from you that you wish to do and make changes that you wish to make.
FREE SELF HYPNOSIS GUIDE
Self Hypnosis can be achieved by anyone even without the need for a CD or MP3 if you prefer the free option! Self Hypnosis is a knack that will take time to get right. The key is to persevere and practice until you get it right. During this you may want to use an eye fixation technique, ie. staring directly at a fixed point, or you may wish to close your eyes.
A Self Help Guide follows:
Sit or lie down comfortably, make sure you are warm enough as you will be sitting still for some time and people often get cold when doing this.
Now beginning at your toes, mentally relax each part of your body in turn, move up through each part of your body relaxing the muscles and visualising stress, tension and anxiety easing away. Every so often think to yourself "deeper relaxed" mentally repeating "deeper relaxed".
Next visualise a staircase with ten steps and a handrail to hold onto, or a smooth pathway if you prefer. Begin to count from 10 down to 1 and see yourself at the entrance to a special place or safe room. This is your inner santuary, make it however you want use your imagination. Enjoy the special place you have created in your inner mind. Perhaps there's somewhere to sit and be comfortable. When you are ready begin deep breathing for five breaths. If you are looking to free yourself of something eg. stress, mentally focus on breathing in 'Calm' and breathing out 'Stress'
After the five deep breaths, allow your breathing to adjust to normal levels. If you wish you can continue to breathe in the positive quality and breath out the negative one, alternatively continue as follows: Begin saying to yourself some personal keywords or phrases or perhaps a 'mantra' which you might use in meditation. Choose carefully and keep it positive eg. If your aim is to lose weight you could say something like "Every day I am getting closer and closer to my goal of a slimmer fitter body" or "I only desire to eat low calorie foods, to help me get slim" When you are ready to return to normal simply count silently to yourself from 5 down to 1. Mentally and physically feeling more awake until on the count of 1 you are fully alert again If you wish you could play some gentle music in the background while you practice self hypnosis, keep the volume low though. My made to order and pre-recorded CD's and MP3's all have a gentle backdrop of relaxing music.
When is the best time to practice self hypnosis?
Naturally you want to get the best out of your self hypnosis and choosing a time that is right for you will help you achieve that. With our busy demanding lives, many people find last thing at night is the best time and this can also be helpful in getting off to sleep, mentally switching off at the end of the day.
However, not everyone finds this beneficial, some people are 'morning people' and they will probably get more out of practicing their self hypnosis in the morning than they ever could late at night. The fact is it is entirely individual, you will soon find what works best for you. Fitting in around external factors can be an issue too, you need a time when you can be undisturbed, when your environment is quiet when you won’t be interrupted by telephones, visitors, pets or other general household activities.
The same applies to your choice of location. Successful self hypnosis requires you to be comfortable, warm enough and relaxed. Some people find using the same location every time they practice self hypnosis adds something to the whole experience and makes is easier and more effective over time. You basically just need to pick a time and a place where you will be comfortable and you will not be disturbed or distracted. Try to relax and let your mind be peaceful, it takes practice to let yourself drift into a trance state at will, but once you have achieved it you can then use self hypnosis with incredible reaults, finding with practice that it is easier and quicker to achieve a trance state. Once you have mastered this you can make far-reaching changes in your life using self hypnosis.
